                             Ethiopic Viewer 0.4

Eth-View is an X-Windows utility for translating and displaying Latin Ascii
into Ethiopian script. Eth-View is a follow-up program to EthioTalk, developed
by Yonas Fisseha, that implements the System for Ethiopic Representation in
Ascii for 101 Keyboards (SERA-101) developed by Firdyiwek and Yacob (See Ethio
Science & Technology V. 3, No. 1 or the SERA-94 file included in this package)
The intent of Eth-View is to encourage Ethiopian native language communication
by email by providing a means to read ones language in its native script -the
Modern Ge'ez Fidel. Support is provided for basic email reading but Eth-View
does not (yet) provide all of the same features of Email tools that you may
already be accustomed to. Eth-View 0.4 has been tested within reason on 4 Unix
platforms (Sun, SGI, DEC, and HP) and we believe will operate under normal
circumstances. The most commonly occurring problems are addressed in the
following. We thank you for giving Eth-View a try and hope that you will find
it an easy and enjoyable way to write with Ethiopian script.

Eth-Viewer Participation
------------------------

The ultimate goal of this project is to develop a full service Email tool for
Ethiopic. Eth-View 0.1 was the first step taken in that direction. You are
encouraged to read and respond to the QUESTIONNAIRE file to affectively help us
in developing a better tool for Ethiopic intercomputer communications.
